The Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association (ASWA) was asked by the Chief Librarian, Bo Simons, for the second year to make a presentation at the Sonoma County Wine Library on the subject of east coast wines and to pour a representative sample. Six wines were selected by ASWA and approved by Mr. Simons. The six were:
Somerset (Dry 75% Carlos, 25% Niagara)
The presentation was given by ASWA Vice President, Mr. David A. Barber. Mr. Barber is part owner in a small winery (Hartwood Winery) in Virginia, a certified wine judge and long time American Wine Society member. The maximum seating was 58 people and the presentation was a sell-out. Mr. Barber gave a brief history of grape growing and wine making on the east coast before talking about each of the six wines listed above. The presentation lasted one hour and then 24 additional wines were opened for the attendees. These were accompanied by a table of light hors d’oeuvres. Mr. Barber and ASWA President, Carl Brandhorst, along with ASWA West Coast Representative, Ms. Anne Vercelli, were available during the subsequent tasting to answer any questions about the wines. The attendees were a mix of winery workers, media types, consumers and educators.
